8th ANNUAL VINTAGE KART REUNION

Blue Max Kart Club-Davis, Ca.- May 2,3,4 2008

For the 4th year in a row, we are returning to the Blue Max Kart Club in Davis to celebrate our 8th Annual Vintage Kart Reunion!!!

Every year we continue to have very positive responses about our move to the Blue Max Kart Club from Prairie City in 2005 and made it a stand alone event!!! Vintage drivers really liked the shorter track configuration with more sweeping corners, which allows their motors to work at their peek performance without over taxing them. The Blue Max track configuration offers great viewing of the entire track for pit crews and spectators, and the hospitality given to the Vintage Karters by the Blue Max membership has been excellent!

I, again met with Daryl "Doc" Lindsey, the new Club President and Cindy Clark, Blue Max Kart Club Officers and Board members during the November Nor-Cal meeting, wherein they reserved the first weekend of May on their racing calendar for our return of the Vintage Karts for our celebration of the 8th Annual Reunion. On behalf of Ahrens Motorsports and the entire Vintage Karter fraternity, we again would like to thank the Blue Max Kart Club Board and its membership, for allowing us to return and exhibit our sport as it used to be, and the changes that have taken place over the past 50 years! (Some of us have gotten a little older in age, but are still very young in spirit)

The Vintage Kart Reunion will again be a stand alone event on Sunday! We will share track time with club members on practice days (Friday/Saturday). But, as has always been the case, we will have an absolutely great time!

Attached to this newsletter is a flyer that addresses all the information on our upcoming event, only 3 weeks away!

RICHARD KENNEDY 2-WHEELIN

I have made contact with Richard Kennedy, who has made the commitment to once again return to put on his 2 wheel kart driving exhibition. He will be putting on his exhibition on Saturday, since he has other commitments on Sunday. If you have not seen him perform in the past, this is a do not miss event!!

FREE VINTAGE KARTER’S BBQ

Our traditional Free BBQ will be offered to all Vintage Kart drivers and their pit crews at 5:00 after Saturday practice!!! Bring a big appetite!

NOSTALGIA VINTAGE KART SHOW-Saturday, May 3rd

+We will again have a designated area in the upper pits to display your Show or Racing/Show Karts. In other words, if you have a kart you do not race, but have built just for nostalgia show purposes, bring the Vintage Kart along! Those who race their Show karts will be given time to bring them to their show spots after practice is closed down at 5:00 pm Saturday. This will be a special time for all Vintage Karters to reminisce the old times, and do some old fashion bench racing, while you are enjoying your BBQ dinner, and while your Karts are being evaluated by very competent judges. Last year we had 20+ karts participate in the Show and Judging. There were some absolutely beautiful, unique restored karts, plus several original unrestored karts. I have ordered some very nice awards to honor winners in the following categories:

2007 AWARD WINNERS

BEST APPEARING DUAL Dewey Bagley-1960 Bug Wasp(Triple Mac 10’s)

BLUE MAX MEMBERS PRACTICE FREE

Attention all Blue Max members!!! Although the Vintage Karts will be at your track for practice on Friday/ Saturday, all members will be able to practice free, which is your membership privilege. Please bring your membership cards, as all non-members will be charged a practice fee to practice on the track. There will be controlled practice on those days, with Vintage Karts having their own designated split class practice sessions. The only time practice will not be available is during the running of the Vintage Kart Reunion on Sunday.

PUBLICITY

Tom Parker, www.tomparkerphotos.com will be on site Sunday for our official reunion to memorialize the event and have photos on his web site for your purchase.

VINTAGE KART LINK

For additional Vintage Kart information, and links to local Davis motels, there is a link to my web site, or you can go directly to the Blue Max web site at www.bluemaxkartclub.com

OVERNIGHT CAMPING

If you choose to stay over in your motorhome or camper, accommodations will be made for you to stay over at the track on Friday and Saturday nights. There are no hookups at the track.

NOISE-HIGH DECIBELS

Noise has always been an issue at certain tracks near population centers. It is an issue at Davis due to their proximity to a residential area. Last year you all did a terrific job, as there were no complaints from our visit. Many thanks go out to Terry Ives Industries for designing a can, which he had available at the track for purchase. We desperately need to be good neighbors, so we can continue to lease this facility, to continue our Vintage Kart Reunion at this fine facility!

SPECIAL THANKS

Many special thank go out to Mike Hartman for putting together an excellent article on last year’s Vintage Kart Reunion, published in the May/June 2007 edition of the Vintage VKA Magazine, and to Jerry Imboden of Kart Art for providing him the excellent photos.

Gotta Go! HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE!!!!
